glad you enjoyed it! ^_^;;; i did the mental math once and now i forget, but Shigemi was probably 2 or 3 when Sai passed on... in my head, Sai is wiling away eternity with the god of go. ^_~
this fic is actually unfinished... tho, i suspect you, specifically, won't enjoy where it's going, so. ^_^;;;;;
Ouch for Touya, although I'm glad Hikaru is happy, although his relationship with Sai's look-a-like makes me feel a little uncomfortable. It's obvious that he's a different person to Sai and I think Hikaru sees things which may not be fair to Shigemi, which makes me feel bad for him.
his relationship with Shigemi SHOULD make you uncomfortable! ^_^ thank you for your comments. this fic is actually, sigh, unfinished. i'm still working on it, but things with Shigemi - and with Touya - are still in flux.
Ho, this is quite original! It's nice to see something different like this, where Shindou and Touya aren't together. Hope that the story will be finished after the reveal?
oh, flonne. you're awesome. you have no idea how happy your comment made me when it was first posted... just because i was glad that you KNEW that the story was unfinished. ^_~ yessss, i'm still working on it, so i hope it won't be TOO long before the whole thing is ready. ^_^
Lol, you are easily pleased! It was obvious when I was reading the story that the writer was someone with a lot of talent who would know better than to end a story so abruptly.
ahah, well, i AM, yeah... it's just... when i was submitting it, i decided not to put a 'to be continued' or somesuch at the bottom, but after the posting, i could no longer remember why i had decided that... i wasn't at all sure people would realize it wasn't finished, and this chunk of the story almost goes in a totally different direction than the whole, so... i was worried i'd given people the entirely wrong idea and then i saw your comment, so, yeah, it made me happy. ^_^;;;
Very interesting. I liked the cognitive dissonance (Hikaru with "his student" while pining for his own teacher), and Hikaru can't quite stop himself from comparing Shigemi with Sai -- and it's obvious that Shigemi's personality is not like Sai's or even Touya's. But I still hope Hikaru can find happiness - or let himself -- have happiness with Shigemi. The impression here is that Hikaru is trying to keep his relationship very casual, as he doesn't feel the same intensity towards Shigemi that he did for Touya or Sai, and perhaps he thought Shigemi was "safe" because Shigemi is young (too young to settle down), and just interested in sex, mostly. But the last scene with them indicates that Shigemi does actually have some strong feelings for him, and has probably just been trying not to say it because he knows that Hikaru thinks of him as "Sai." I'd like to see how Hikaru resolves this: does he cut things off with Shigemi before he breaks Shigemi's heart, or does he manage to get over his past-relationship issues and move on

*blushes like crazy* your extremely thoughful and in-depth comment has had me smiling since you posted. you are 100% spot-on with everything you say, which makes me feel good because i feel like, at least a bit, i succeeded in what i set out to do. thank you so, so much for taking the time to read and think and respond like this. ^___^
to respond to some of your questions... the story is unfinished, and i'm still working on it, so hopefully it won't be too much longer, but yeah... Hikaru and Shigemi and Touya still have some hell to get through. when i was picking a name for Shigemi, i wanted something that would... sort of vaguely call to mind Sai. i can't read kanji so looking it up that way wasn't possible. "Shigemi" and "Sai" don't really sound alike, but i was looking at meanings of names and trying to get that "s" sound... when i was looking over family names, i didn't really want to pick something so directly linked to "Fujiwara" but "Fujii" was the best option i found. just like his appearance, his name is intended to

The way it began so solidly Hikaru/Sai and then twisted sharply with the revelation that it was Akira that Hikaru had been in love with. The way the feelings are so nebulous and convoluted that they're as real and uninterpretable as any non-fictitious emotion.
yes, yes, that muddy, 'complex' kind of emotional state is precisely what i was aiming for, so i'm very glad that you liked it and it rang true for you. i'm just so glad that you enjoyed and appreciated it.
actually, the story is not yet done. =X i've never posted something to blind go that was unfinished before, so i'm still working to get it done, but i'm glad this part worked well, even standing alone!

I wonder if Shigemi is young enough to be a full reincarnation of Sai....

In short, it's beautiful.
