html how to: format italics, bold and underline in word documents

Aug 31, 2011 12:10

I first learned this trick a few years ago in a comment on svilleficrecs journal, and it's been an awesome time saver ever since. Call it the "how to format a fic for posting in less than 30 seconds no matter the story length or amount of formatting" trick.

Thanks so much for this! This info will be super helpful, I think, in the future. Do you happen to know of an easy way to change double-return to a single-return, for when I want to change my fic from a posting format (two line breaks between each paragraph) into more printing-out format (like in a book)? Is there an easy way to copy/replace two enter-presses with one?

Yup! You want the code: ^p

To go from single to double: type ^p in the find box and ^p^p in the replace box. To go from double to single, simply reverse. :)

Hope this helps!

I think this was actually the first code I learned, back in the days when fic reading involved grabbing stories from the usenet groups. I like reading stories with certain formatting, so I figured out the quickest way to reformat text files using Word. :)
