I can't imagine how you could be misinterpreting the roommates' behavior, but perhaps they have a reason for being such jerks. Knowing can't be worse than than not knowing why they're being so awful, given their recent actions.

he used to be much more inclusive. they're just so far up each other's asses, and i suspect she's dishing out a healthy dose of passive-aggressive assertion. it's just, this is particularly rude.
