Does anyone else think a lot of the recent wank was caused at least in part by people who don't actually play in Mayfield? Because I kind of suspect as much.

Yeeeeeeeeeeah. I don't think there's anyone who DOESN'T think that. Anoncomm had been pretty bored and starved for wank before, so they just latched onto it like a bunch of ravenous wank-craving wild animals.
