[ It's three in the morning on another cold autumn night. She's managed to get to sleep a little easier tonight... but that isn't saying much. Her thoughts have been occupied on him despite how much she tries to distract herself, no matter how much she cooks or cleans or tries to converse with others that would usually make her feel so much better-- she can't get over it
( ... )
[and he wakes up, alive again - goes out to smoke and immediately turns around, back in because of the nasty weather - smokes his pipe inside between bunny kisses, instead. looks at the clock, wonders if he should just leave her alone because it's really fuckin' late]
[...he finds he can't. he wants to be there, and even after brooding over it the feeling doesn't go away, so once it's done he's right back out in the weather, calling her as he goes]
[ She groans and rolls over, frowning in her sleep without knowing. She's dreaming a very dull, frustrating, unsatisfying dream, feeling as though something is close, so close... if she could only reach it-- but she's still out of reach. ]
[ She doesn't wake up until at least the fifth ring of her phone on the nightstand, eyes peeling open slowly on the sixth and groaning on the seventh-- it isn't until the eigth, when she's SURE they'll have giving up by now does she answer. She doesn't bother checking to see who it is, merely letting out a sleepy grunt, speaking softly. ]
[chuckles under his breath. he can't help it, she sounds so out of it and it's cute] [and it's nice to hear her, too] Hey. You're gonna have to be more awake than that t'let me in.
[ This... perfect example of why she questions him owning a phone in the first place. ]
[ But this conversation doesn't need much. She's already flying out of bed in nothing but a t-shirt and her panties, phone still on and in her hand as she rushes down the stairs and to the door. She unlocks it as quickly as she can, throwing it open and just hopes that she's not dreaming again. ]
[ A small, desperate sound escapes her throat as she steps forward and throws her arms around him, not caring that she's barefoot against the cold concrete or that the wind is blowing. He's all she's been thinking about for the past week. ]
[ Her arms are tight around his neck with just enough space to bury her face in there too. She had been so upset over how and why he died... and scared, so unsure of whether she would see him again. ]
[ She isn't even aware of it as her skin erupts with goosebumps from the cold, just holding him close, breathing him in deeply and trying not to shake. ]
Hey - [he murmurs it into her hair as he wraps his arms tigher - hey, what is he supposed to do right now. hey, how is she. hey, calm down a little. hey, she's here and he's here and - just - ] Hey.
[strokes her hair as he says it, not sure if he's soothing him or soothing her]

...B-Broer?
[ She pulls the phone away to look at the caller id, just for confirmation, FORCING her eyes to focus against the bright screen. ]

[he's actually nearly to her front door, now, but he'll stand awkwardly out in the cold and wait for her to wake up a little before he knocks]
