Been a While

Like the subject says, yes.

It's been an eventful, awesome, and fully insane just under first two weeks of the year, and updating has sadly been scare.  Been taking a lot of pictures though because that's the important part.  :D  The other important part is that I've been reading everyone's posts and sending prayers and happy thoughts and hugs and ( Read more... )

red wings, cottage, over the top or the northern loop, fake friends irl, hockey

I am insanely jealous of your travels through the upper Midwest.

Isn't Duluth just a lovely little place? We used to go through on our way to the Boundary Waters for canoe trips...I always wanted to stay longer. I'm fond of the Twin Cities, too, not least of all for the availability of tasty and wonderful Vietnamese food. :D

I am enjoying my travels so very much. I'll be putting up more pictures over the next week (as the traveling settles down) to share the experience!

It really is. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I'd love to go up to Boundary Waters at some point, but the Northern Shore was just insanely beautiful. I wish we'd had more time to go cross-country skiing or something!

I'd never been to Minneapolis before, but it was a fun city! Very good Thai food though now I'm wishing we'd managed to find some Vietnamese. :D

Mmm, Korean. Ang and I had a Korean food for dinner debate this evening, but we decided Korean in Thunder Bay might not be the best idea. I will take her to good Korean food in Detroit.

BUT THE KITTEH CAN LIVE WITH MEESE. And sushis and Vietnamese and ZOMBIE BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR.

The US was the team I was worried about in the WJC, especially after their first game with Canada. Any Canadian team that can steamroll weaker opponents (Latvia was a sad game to watch) but can't win convincingly against higher opponents is not usually on the top of podium.

Glad you enjoyed the crazy weather. My part of the Great Lakes had some pretty good windchill, but no live hockey for me, sadly. :-( Oh well. I do agree with you about the women's teams. They may not shoot as hard and they don't body check, but their game made the NHL look bad in the dead puck era. Call me old fashioned but I like to see shots on power plays.

Anyway drive safe and enjoy the rest of your trip. Are you going to take 17 back to the Soo or go back via Duluth?

The WJC really suffers from those first round of games where the US, Canada, and Sweden beat up on the little teams and run up huge scores. It'd be nice to see something a little more competitive there.

Sad about the lack of live hockey for you! Though hockey on tv is a good thing too especially when it's not on at like 4am or something. See, I very much enjoy cycling the puck - the Sedins make me so happy, but then I grew up on the Russian Five. :D

Yep, 17 back to the Soo over the next few days then we'll head down to Saginaw to watch the Spirit play the Barrie Colts.

Darn! If you and your crew had come through about three weeks ago I could have seen about taking you to nice restaurants and maybe a Hounds game. Oh well.

Drive safe and have a fantastic rest of your road trip. :-)

Your love of hockey and the neighbourhood (neighbourhood spelled the Canuck way on purpose!) is so awesome!

I watched the WJC championship game in an airport bar waiting for a flight - it was fun! Then 3rd period was just starting when we got on the plane.

They had seatback screens with live TV and everyone put the game on right away. It being a Canadian airline and a cool pilot, they let us watch the game during taxi and take-off. Everyone onboard was into it and it was such an exciting game - too bad about the ending :P

That is SO COOL with the pilot letting everyone watch the 3rd period during the taxi and take-off! You have to admit though - no matter which way that game ended, it would've still been a fun game. I'd've been totally okay with Canada winning in the OT period. Jack Campbell needs to have a long career in the NHL.

Ooh, ooh, and we're going to see Della Rovere and Pietrangelo playing for the Barrie Colts this Sunday! I'm totally excited. The OHL is such a fun group of kids to watch.

And yay! I'm so glad my dorkitude over hockey and the upper midwest isn't totally weird. Or possibly it is, but still fun.
