"Hooray for culture!"

I have had a bad habit lately of prowling forums on IMDb. People are hilarious and sad. But one thing I'd like to know is why people like it when movies mix sexy and violent? There are a lot of comments saything things like "Thora Birch would be so hawt with a chainsaw, tearin up zombies, blood everywhere", stuff like that. Why? I bugs me that ( Read more... )

all other things aside, the violence/sexual thing is a predatory response. the oposite sex performing well in a violent situation is arousing because it means that the potential mate is highly capable of defending him/herself.

also, not a small number of people enjoy violent sex, so....

The sexual kink is something else altogether. People can do whatever they like with their partners as long as everyone involved knows the score.

But in the media, it seems like Hollywood filmmakers go out of their way associate sexuality with violence, especailly when it's a female who's pulling the trigger or what have you.

The potential mate can fend for herself, yeah, but people shouldn't be getting turned on when she's hurting/murdering people. It's the media pushing something negative, in my opinion.

i dunno how much holywood is pushing that so much as people enjoy it. it's one of those viscious cycles. holywood makes it because people enjoy watching it. would people enjoy it if holywood didn't make those movies? who knows.

i would say it's basically a logical mixture though, when you consider how much everyone loves sex, and how much everyone loves violence. it's like peanut butter and jelly.

i suspect my views on this are quite skewed by the fact that i LIKE violent movies and games, and i LIKE sex. so mixing the two doesn't offend me in the least. like i said, it's kind of a logical mix considering basic human interest in sex and violence.

I like sex and violence as well, but I wouldn't say it's like peanut butter and jelly. Maybe more like chocolate and bacon? Just because they are things I find entertaining in movies, doesn't mean they should be put together.

This disagreement could be based on how we choose the movies we like, though. I'm usually more of a "film" person, and while I do like silly b-movies, I don't take them seriously.
