[ Series ] : The Sandman

[ History ] :
here’s a pretty quick and dirty overview of important happenings

[ Personality ] :
Dream is, without a doubt, extremely jaded. He hates change (enough that he allowed it to lead to his downfall) and has a problem easing up on any particular offense he sees against himself. He’s ruthless when it comes to revenge, known for throwing a woman into the bowels of hell just because she "betrayed him", in his eyes. (No, seriously. Later he goes down to grab her out of guilt because Death pretty much tells him he's an ass.)

He has the capacity to be very caring. When he falls in love, he really does fall in love - hard, too, and in a way that can only be described as "head over heels". When he's fallen in love, he pours all he can onto his lover, but he's also very stuffy and hard to deal with. If they leave, he goes emo-posing out in his self-made Dreaming rainstorms until he's over it. It seems to be that he's always got to be the tragic character, whether he notices it or not.

Out of all the Endless, he is one of the most aware of all his actions. He knows long before his own demise that he's doomed himself, and gives himself almost willingly to the Furies when they come to destroy him for going against the ancient rules. He also isn't prone to randomly affecting those around him with his abilities; he only ever uses his influence when necessary, or when he's ruining someone's life. He understands his responsibilities and consequences fully, and does not hesitate to do what he thinks he should, no matter of how cruel it might seem to others. (Making someone forever dream, banning someone to hell, not doing anything to help disembodied son's head, etc etc. He's got a history.)

Dream is a very straight speaker. He doesn't always get certain humours or sarcasm, and he very rarely beats about the bush. He can be flowery and poetic at times, though his language is almost archaic (especially considering the other Endless - everyone speaks in fairly modern terms, save for he and Destiny) in its usage - not a lot of contractions, a less commonly heard vocabulary, etc.

He's very set in his ways. Saying he doesn't care for change is like saying the world is kind of big. He acts almost like a petulant child when his siblings point out his flaws, and has a tendency to blame others, even if subconsciously, for his own shortcomings. He tries, later in the series, to try and make up for his mistakes, but he refuses past a certain point to change, and ends up allowing his own death for this very reason. (Upon his death, the child Daniel became the new aspect of Dream of the Endless, and though they were the same Endless, they were not the same person. Not fundamentally, at least.)

He treats everything formally, including the ways he goes about completing missions. He takes his position very seriously, and, by extension, the positions of the people around him just as seriously. He knows his limits, knows his abilities, and will not hesitate being honest about the possibility of his own death, nor will he underestimate most other beings.

He tries to deal with his own problems as best he can, not relying on his siblings (even when it would behoove him to do so), which can lead to a whole lot of trouble. He's stubborn, especially about keeping to himself, and often refuses to listen to reason if he thinks he's got a point to prove. He can be easy to provoke and often goes over the top in his judgment, provided the crime is unforgivable in his eyes.

But he's really not a bad guy. Just anti-social, judgmental, quiet, vengeful, unchanging, bitter, jaded and stubborn....

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Dream is the very anthropomorphic personification of dreams, which also leads to creativity, musing, songs, stories, thoughts, religions, ideas and nightmares. Being so, he’s got a few tricks up his sleeve.

-Transformation: he can easily and at will change his shape to whatever he damn well feels like. He usually keeps himself to the same tall, white, thin man with crazy hair wearing all black, but to some (possibly all) he appears to be whoever they think is the god of dreams. (To the Martian Manhunter, he’s a big damn flaming skull, to Bast he’s catlike in nature, to actual cats he’s an actual cat, to foxes he’s a fox, etc etc. It all depends on the person/being.)

-Transportation: He moves through the dreams of the beings around him, and can easily navigate through them to where he’d like to go.

-Inspiration: He’s can, at will, help someone’s thoughts along (when it comes to stories etc). He once made a deal with Shakespeare, you know. That’s why he’s famous now.

-A specific omniscience: He knows specifically his “children”, or the dreamers/writers/poets/etc, but he can tell something about someone based on their dreams. (He doesn’t usually abuse this ability.) Also, people will think he looks familiar/feels familiar, especially if they’re particularly creative or flighty.

-Immortality: not that it matters for him, anymore. He, being the old aspect of the Endless Dream, is technically dead.

-Creation!: he can draw up nightmares/dreams at his will, though, in Vatheon, this will be very limited.

-Forced sleep: he’s got the ability to either make someone sleep forever or never again, depending on how he feels. He’s also got the ability to sway someone’s dreams one way or another.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
-when he appears in Vatheon, he’ll likely be wearing this.
-he is almost always the jilted lover.

[ Sample ] :
this dressing room is a beautiful thing.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : none. <3 beyond being wildly nervous.
