Kakashi/Iruka doesn't fit because as much as I dislike it, I totally get why it's so absurdly popular.

1) Kakashi is hugely popular, and people wanted someone to pair with him.
2) Iruka was, for a long time, the only other "pretty" adult in the series.
3) The fandom for the pairing took hold during this time and started producing fanworks.
4) Other fans were born from this.
5) Fanon of Kakashi and Iruka together providing a father and a mother figure, respectively, for Naruto and/or Team 7 as a whole arose, contributing to the pairing's popularity.
6) Echo chamber effect continues.
