toward the terra, episodes 1-13.

So Livejournal is being an ass, I'm stuck on fanfiction ideas, and I don't feel like actually vacating the computer to, you know, do something. At some point I'll need to in order to go to the library; Monster is not getting finished any time soon, despite how good it is. I just haven't been in the right mood for it. Eventually I'll pick it up ( Read more... )

Looool Makka.

When the anime was licensed, the translation team was working closely with Vertical who had released the manga earlier, and who had transliterated the name into Makka. At the time of translating the manga, the anime hadn't even been made yet so they had no official way to pronounce the name. It still sounds silly, though.

The anime actually improves a lot on the female characters who are pretty flat and one dimensional in the manga. I think you'll like Svena later on. Physis, though, is just a hate or love character.

Yeah, I get the impression that the anime is doing what it can for the female characters with the source material it has--I notice a lot of competent, likable women in the background and in minor roles, for example, and a lot of female seiyuu where they could just as easily use men.

I neither hate nor love Physis yet; I suppose there's more to her that I'll be seeing later.

I've only read the manga and watched the last episode of the TV series; do you know if the anime differs a lot from the manga? I kinda suspect the dearth of female character (for the whole manga it felt like there's only one female that matters: Physis) has something to do with Takemiya being more known as BL mangaka.

I don't know just how much the anime differs, although I know they tweak some things. I also wouldn't say there's only one female that matters; in the anime, Suena, while a minor character, is reasonably important too. I quite like her, actually.

I didn't realize the creator was more known as a BL mangaka, although it certainly explains Keith and Matsuka's relationship.

Hm, I don't remember focus on Suena in the manga, so perhaps her role got expanded in the anime?

About Keiko Takemiya, according to wiki she made the first shounen-ai manga published (in 1970) as well as the first ever male-male kiss in shoujo manga. A bit of amusing trivia in the Dear Meisters book, Yun Kouga mentioned that Mizushima asked her to design Innovades' costume with the image of Takemiya's manga, the shounen-ai classic "Kaze to Ki no Uta".
