Michiko's grand entrance!

There will be more when I'm not about to run off to the theater. Oh yes.

The first episode is so, so, so good. I love pretty much everything about it. *___* And yes! Hatchin being a girl makes this something much less archetypical already. She has such an amazing personality, and her and Michiko's dynamics are amazing.

I get hot every time Michiko talks, ahahahah.

AND JUST

The whole atmosphere and everything and I'm in love.

It's just so gorgeously done. Clearly, when a woman directs an anime with excellent production values and a fine team, the result is pure awesome. I am sticking to this.

Hatchin is so the kind of character who would normally be a Young Boy Out To Discover The World, but she's a girl, and that makes it extra awesome.

I really enjoy this show. It's very fun and full of joyful animation. You can tell this is the director's first work due to the awkward dramatic timing and pacing, but she is doing a great work setting up the atmosphere. The use of color, dynamic angles and lighting is a work of top-notch animation.

On a related note. I don't think this is the kind of show for a fandom. American Gurren-Lagann's fandom or American Cowboy Bebop's fandom or American FLCL's fandom were very "small", in terms of fanart and fanfiction and the common "LiveJournal" side of fandom, for the very same reason: they are all shows watched by people more intrigued by the "artistic-technical" side of anime; as in how is it directed, how is it paced, how is it animated and how is it written rather than the "content" and "shipping" and "character idolization".

Just my opinion, though.

I dunno: I can live without the fanart and fanfiction, but I'd like to be in touch with a group of people who pass around news and information and the like. And GL, at least, had people like that; and I know that Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, for example, have a reasonably healthy fandom, although to be fair much of it sprang up after the show was done.

Yeah, I love both the animation and the character designs. They're quite unique. And I'm already pretty invested in Hatchin's story.
