Well, see, Guru Pathik tells Aang that he has to give up all his earthly attachments to achieve the Avatar state at will. Clearly, this means he has no other choice but to give up Katara, and that's totally in keeping with the themes of the show!
As much as I love the kids, this show has some totally awesome adults as well. Especially the old guys like Iroh. ♥
As always, I love your episode reactions. I especially liked the bit about Sokka and Hakoda; that part often gets forgotten in the midst of all the other Big Things happening.
Sokka is one of my favorite characters so a;fjdks; seeing how he'd grown made me so happy. ♥ Come to think of it, by and large the episode as a whole was about how the characters had grown--although I'd need to think to come up with a way it showed that about Katara.
Well I assume they're subtle to most people because they cannot grasp it. I do think it's really really obvious how the writers play on gender roles in the series, but I also think Aang/Katara is the most canon ship ever.
