He'd asked her to come. That was the only reason she was here and it was an iffy reason at best. She didn't really want to be here. She hadn't even wanted to stay in the town the extra few days, but she had asked, and with absolutely no game in mind, she had said yes.
She'd gone back to London to get a dress. A white and black floor length number that part of her hoped he would appreciate. Affixed to her face a delicate white mask, though she doubted it hid her identity any.
Making her way into the room, her heart jumped a little, remembering what happened the last time she had entered this mansion. Still, the feel was different than the last time she had been here, and she could feel her skin crawl. She walked over to the table and sat down slowly before looking around to see who else was there.
Cho had left Annwn weeks before with more questions unanswered than she would have liked to carry around in her busy brain. But since she had returned home she had been unable to get the little town out of her thoughts. So when she received a mysterious invitation to a black and white masquerade it was just the excuse she needed to return, at least for the occasion

Padma looked up at the sound of her name and her jaw literally dropped. It was Cho, but she had never seen Cho dress... like that! Padma snapped her mouth shut and rose, wrapping her arms around the girl, surprised again when she touched bare skin. "My gods, Cho. Are you trying to get laid tonight, or do you want to leave the entire male party with blue balls?"
She laughed at the thought then turned serious. "What on earth are you doing here? You seem to spend more time in this backwater than in the office nowadays. I miss having lunch with you."
"I know, it's nutters, yeah?" Cho giggled another sip of sparkling wine, or was it champagne? She didn't care, although she rather enjoyed the way the bubbles tickled her nose. "Just felt like being adventurous for a change, instead of the same boring Ravenclaw bird." It was true; she was tired of the predictable, mundane life of her dreary day-to-day, tired of being remembered as the girl who once dated Cedric Diggory at the time of his death before dating Harry Potter and weeping her way through her sixth year. She always felt she was better than the box in which she allowed herself to be placed by many in the Wizarding world. Much better

When the invitation had arrived, Alicia had spent a long time wondering what you were supposed to wear for a masquerade. Her mind presented her with mental images of everything from French regal outfits that required a waistline of a couple of inches and a fishbone skirt that stuck out a yard on either side, to the skimpily clad woman she remembered seeing in pictures from New Orleans. Neither of those enticed her, though she did like the masks they were wearing

Getting the invitation had been exciting for Rose. it wasn't often she got to go to a party, especially a masquerade ball. Still, this had presented the problem of what to wear. A quick glance into her closet had revealed a few dresses, all of them short. Not suitable for a ball. Not suitable for the cold. They were more suited to parties back home, which she had realized that she missed.
Still, she hadn't wanted to spend anymore money, so she had pulled a dress from her closet, length be damned. Maybe it would help her get laid for once. That could be fun. She pulled on the short number, which exposed quite a bit of leg, pulled on her butterfly mask and made her way over the festival, hoping for someone to talk to.
Regulus was starting to feel like he shouldn't have come.
Granted, the invitation had said that everyone's presence was required. Presumably, that included him, but as he looked around and saw absolutely no familiar faces, he began rethinking his decision to attend.
He didn't like crowds to begin with, so what the hell had he been thinking? Remembering his flat and some new books that he'd wanted to read, Regulus began wondering if he could make a graceful exit without anyone noticing. After all, he did remember to wear a mask; if he tried to leave, who the hell would know who he was

Neville hated large gatherings, unsure of how to act at them, but he'd finished at the greenhouse early enough that he couldn't not attend the masquerade. At least, he couldn't find a legitimate reason not to. Besides, maybe he'd run into old friends.
That had been the mindset the boy had when he'd entered the mansion. Within a few minutes he'd been rather intimidated by the grandeur, moving to hide over by the punch bowl, nervously swallowing the sweet liquid. He hoped no one could recognize him behind the plain black mask, but then again, if no one recognized him, how would he get a chance to talk to his friends...?
Spotting someone coming towards him, Neville took a deep breath. Well, he might as well... talk... he guessed.
"Hi there," Neville murmured at the stranger, glancing at him to ensure that he wasn't mistaking someone he knew for someone he didn't. No, he definitely hadn't met this man before...
Regulus blinked and turned to whoever had just stated the greeting. They couldn't be talking to him, could they? But as soon as he'd turned towards the noise, he could see someone looking at him. It was a man he didn't know, and judging from how young he looked, he could possibly be the child of one of his schoolmates. The mask he wore obscured his facial features, though, so it was hard to see if he bore a familial resemblence to any of Regulus's former peers

Ginny had been wandering around trying to peer past the masks that hid the majority of people's faces. She felt a little silly holding her own to her face as the flaming red hair that hung in loose curls down her back was more than a dead giveaway. She stopped near Neville, furrowing her brow slightly as she watched him move, almost certain it was him. When he talked and she recognized the voice she grinned to herself and moved forward.
"Guess who," she said, laughing softly. Really, masquerades weren't made for Weasley's. Especially not the only female Weasley child.
Ginny let her eyes settle on the stranger Neville was talking to and she smiled warmly, offering a hand to him. "Hi, I'm Ginny," she said, her voice warm and friendly.
Severus scowled as he stalked into the ballroom, an expression that was hidden behind the plain black mask that covered the top half of his face. Thankfully he hadn't had to go to much effort tonight. The black and white theme had not been difficult to adhere to and he'd pulled out his only set of dress robes - robes that were admittedly not that much different from what he normally wore, just of a slightly better cut and of more expensive material.
He took a glass of champagne from a passing server and found a convenient corner of the room to... well, to essentially hide in. He despised these sort of events and he'd been sorely tempted to not come. It was only his curiousity at seeing who the tenant of the mansion was along with wanting to see who else was here that had made him come. And you wanted to see Lily again, whispered a voice in his mind that he promptly ignored

Lily entered the ballroom, looking around with curiosity as her long dress flowed around her legs, sometimes catching on the heels of her shoes. She accepted one of the long flutes of champagne from a passing waiter and took a sip. Looking over the edge of her glass she studied the other guests and spotted Remus and other people she wasn't so sure she wanted to talk with. James was nowhere to be seen, neither was Sirius for that matter... or Harry.
But standing in one of the darker corners, she spotted Severus, dressed in black which did not surprise her in the least. With a sigh Lily went over to him, adjusting her white and silver mask as it seemed to be slipping. She moved through the crowd with a tight hold on her glass as she didn't favour having it spilled over her dress. When she finally reached Severus' side, she gave him a small smile and moved to stand beside him. "Severus." She nodded and arched an eyebrow. "Didn't expect to see you here, but I can't say that I'm surprised to find you here." She gestured at the dark

Severus saw Lily the moment she walked into the room and he initially couldn't tear his eyes away from her. She looked so beautiful in the dress she was wearing. He did note that she had come in on her own - no husband, no Marauders ad no son. He glanced quickly around the room and couldn't see the younger Potter anywhere. Surely the boy wasn't asinine enough to disobey the invitation in favour of the task he'd set him? Severus wasn't sure why he'd thought it important to come, he just had and he'd learned long ago not to ignore that instinct

Lily quirked an eyebrow, smiling slightly at his compliment, and looked up at him. "Thank you." Reaching up, she tapped his mask on the top of his nose and with a quirk on her lips. "Quite the ensemble you have on, Severus." She couldn't help but tease him a bit, but she had to admit that black suited him as always and this was the perfect place for that colour.
"How long have you been skulking in this corner?" Lily arched an eyebrow and glanced out at the rest of the ballroom. Sighing, she thought about how he always had kept to the corners where he could observe everyone else without being surprised by anyone. "I know, it felt as if I had to go here regardless of the consequences. I don't know why..."
