Date: April 25 2003 Character(s): Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks Location: The mansion Status: Private Summary: Cedric wants answers. But the answers he's given might not be what he wants to hear. Completion: Incomplete
Cedric was working on paperwork when she spoke. He glanced up. She was wearing her real face and using her real name. Tonks. He frowned at the thought that this was Anne, the woman that was so friendly and practically innocent.
Moments ticked by before he even replied. "Well, I have work to do, but since you're my boss I supposed you can give me permission to take lunch." He force what he hoped was a smile, but could easily be a grimace. It felt strange to be... friendly towards her. He wanted to be act normally. But it was hard.
"So, where do you want to go?" he asked quietly, looking down at the paperwork in front of him again. He couldn't meet her eyes, he realized. He couldn't even bring himself to continue to smile. But maybe a nice lunch a way from the mansion would be just what he needed to get his head around what was going on. He sincerely hoped she wasn't going to suggest staying here in the mansion for the meal.
Cedric felt his stomach drop at the idea of eating here in the mansion. Any appetite he had left his money. But eating outside sounded good. "The pond sounds good," he said honestly, looking up. "I don't need to get out early. I'll do my own work." His voice came out a lot harsher than he had intended. She wasn't being condescending. She was being nice. "I mean," he amended quickly, softening his tone, "I like to do my own work. It makes me feel... productive."
Flipping the top paper over, he stood up. "No time like the present. the sooner we eat, the sooner we can get back to work." He smiled. A genuine smile, finally. There was something odd going on. Intellectually he knew he had little to no reason to trust her anymore, but everything else was telling him to just wait to make any decisions until he heard her out. "Anyway," he added, in the same even tone, "I have some questions for you, if you don't mind answering. But that can wait until we have food in front of us."
