Still hurting from last night's conversation--if what had occurred between them could be considered a conversation--with Sirius, James hadn't expected to get an owl from anyone. Nor had he expected an owl to find him, but that owl seemed to be especially tenacious.
At the sight of the Map, he almost burst into tears, and felt like an idiot for it. But it has been such a long time since he'd seen it, and it was the perfect symbol of times long past. Happier days and all that.
When he managed to calm himself, James went to get a clean sheet of parchment and a quill to scrawl a note back to Harry. His handwriting had never been the best.

Thanks. This means a lot to me.
It also means a lot that you didn't feel like kicking me out of the Fields.
James paused. He really couldn't think of anything else to say to Harry that wouldn't possibly piss his son off. It seemed like everything pissed Harry off, even apologies.
I'd like us to talk more often. I'll understand if you don't feel the same way, though. You know how to find

Harry didn't really know how to reply to his father's owl. He knew who had created the map, but it seemed like a silly topic to keep dwelling on in order to avoid other issues. He had meant it when he said he hadn't minded his dad having shown up in his memory of Hogwarts. It had been unforeseen, but at least no insults and hexes had been thrown back and forth, so he supposed it was alright.
Harry did want to talk to his father again. Without incidents, of course, but he wasn't sure how to go about it. Well, talk. They had barely talked during their visit to the Fields of Requirements, but it had been something they shared nonetheless. A real conversation with his father could prove to be difficult, however. Certainly now that his mum was out of the picture, so to speak. He didn't want to be opening wounds, not while they were still fresh. Or otherwise, even
