Have you ever come across a radio drama called Jefferson 37? Similar ideas to this, although with a different - and, for my money, slightly less interesting - in.

I haven't. I will totally admit to having been set off down this train of thought by 'Never Let Me Go', which irritated me hugely by not addressing a lot of questions about how a clone based medical system would work, or the social attitudes required to make it work.

I also really liked the use of clones in the Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold, although that is obviously pretty hardcore sci-fi.

I can let you have a copy of the radio plays if you're interested. It was actually pretty close to The Island, but with fewer action sequences and a little creepier.
