Sudden discovery

Have you ever tried, out of curiosity, to put your name on Google and see how many results will come out?
I never did till today.
My sister gave me the idea a couple of days ago, so I put my name and fan fiction on Google search, wondering what would come out.
The first results were fully expected: fanfiction.net, fictionpress.com, my old website ( ( Read more... )

Don't click on the fanhistory page. There was some massive wank about it not too long ago because the person who's running it pulled some really stupid stuff, and is basically trying to cash in on fandom. Every click gives her hits, and hits equal money. It's just a bot, anyway~

I don't Google myself. But I do search lines from my fics from time to time. Getting plagiarized a couple of times will make you a wee bit paranoid, ya know?

Hmmm.. I see..
Well, I won't click on the fanhistory page..
I've never googled myself either; it was more out of curiosity that I tried today.
I never thought of the possibility of getting plagiarized.. O_o;

It's just not wanting to support someone who thinks of our hobby as a cash cow, ya know? That's not how fandom rolls.

I hadn't either until a few years ago, when someone did just that. So every once in a while I'll run a line or three through just to see if anything pops up. Haven't done that for a while, though~ ^___^

Bweh? How the hell does she get money when we visit her site? I don't see any adverts on it? O___o;
I always thought it was more of a political thing, where she distorted pages to her liking. Then again, that would explain how she can spend time to program and get a bot to go and leech of ff.net and the likes. (Always stayed away from heated FH convos...)

Yep, I've did it to see if I was flamed behind my back, of if people were making fun of my stories in a forum unknown by me...
Yeah, I know, paranoia is not good but well...^^;
And actually, I've get the reverse result, I've discovered that I've more fan that what I've once thought...XD;

I'm still doing it from times to times, when I'm bored...

Ah yeah...Fanhistory, I was suprised as well, the first times I've seen it...But, as Candy ahd already pointed out, it's just a bot, every authors who had published something on ffnet are added on this site, I think...

I've tried ego-surfing a few times. (ego surfing = googling self)
I've usually done it out of boredom. Or sometimes even nostalgia. A few times I've ended up on some old site or convo that just had me reminiscing. (Only once did I find anything really negative though, and even then it wasn't that bad.)

But yeah, FanHistory confuzzles me and I stay mostly away from it too.

I ego-surfed out of boredom too.. My sister just talked about it days ago and there it goes, when you don't expect it..
I didn't find anything negative but I did find a particularly enthusiast fan's blog.. -still blushing-

FanHistory surprised me but I won't go there anymore.. Candy's right: fandom's are not used in this way..
