Well you know how I feel about Jensen this chapter. I want to hit him upside the head with something hard. GRRRRR He is so suspicious of Jared and so swift with his punishment. I think he's trying to deny how important Jared is to him, but sheesh. And Jared faithful to a fault, the loyal dog he was trained to be. It breaks my heart and encourages me at the same time that he still reaches for something, wants something, wants to read. The scene at the end with the two of them curled up together was just heartbreaking. Too bad more of Jared's life wasn't like that instead of these stingy pieces Jensen ekes out for him.
But maybe compared to other Pets Jared has it good... It's only by comparison that you can tell and in this AU humans aren't doing so well.
Thanks for another great chapter that got me all riled up! ((HUGS))
Jensen is so out of his depth with Jared and he definitely lost his shit. How do you punish a slave who welcomes pain? Thank goodness Christian gives a clue - he needs to approach it from a different direction. Rewards, yay!
Am I sorry for hurting your heart with their dysfunctional lives. Nope, not a bit, because I got an awesome pretty banner out of it. I love your art so much. Thanks bb ((hugs))
Was reading a book so bad Jensen?? My heart really goes out to poor Jared in this one. I think Jared wod probably prefer physical punishment than that twisted mind game with Gen. On one hand I'm glad that jared is not broken but on another he's in so much pain bc how he feels about Jensen. The ending was hopeful so I'm holding on for a happy ending! Beautiful, powerful yet so painful at time writing.... But remains unforgettable! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
It may not surprise you that the first few paragraphs of this were written during banned book week. I guess it wasn't 'reading a book' that was so bad but the deceit and disobedience surrounding it (he had to stand and walk to get at the book). Then there's the whole society itself, it wasn't any book, it was one about Rosa Parks. She was one person who stood up for herself and started a 'revolution' and things were never the same in her society. We learn at the end that books are strictly censored for humans and no wonder. The alphas wouldn't want their pets and slaves to have hope of overturning their lives. We don't see Jensen's opinion on it all, but we get the impression that he is scared of the repercussions to him if his slaves are caught reading banned material.
And yes the mind game was super-cruel to both Jared and Gen - Jensen lost his shit and he knew that physical pain wouldn't make a jot of difference to Jared :(
Wow, Jensen, Jensen, Jensen....sigh! I can dig that he has his beingness as an Alpha to portray, but he seems a little insane :p
But I do get his reasons. He told Jared to be honest with him. So Jared should have said something to Jensen about liking the books and wanting to read them.
But Jared, a lifetime of training to not speak his mind, to just be a good pet, trying to be honest and tell Jensen things...I can see that Jared is not able to do that.
Jensen absolutely lost his shit didn't he? And the result wasn't nice. Sorry :( Hopefully he now has a new direction for helping Jared. Thanks for the comment.
As much as we would all love to understand Jensen, he isn't entirely human and his society is completely different. I think here he was completely out of his depth, he lost his temper big time and he knew he couldn't use traditional methods for punishing Jared. The book that Jared looked at could have would definitely have been on the 'banned' list for humans in their society - it was about a woman who effectively started a revolution by standing up for herself (or sitting down lol), so I guess Jensen may have panicked more about the consequences for him. We don't see much of his society but you get the feeling that Jensen in on the edges of it. Whew- It's taken Jensen a while to work out that rewards may have more impact! Thanks for commenting.
