OMG! John Zarella is in downtown N.O.! On the tenth floor of some hotel in the French Quarter. WTF? If he survives, how's he going to get out of there once the storm passes? How long will the streets of N.O. remain flooded once the winds and rains stop?

Unbelievable.

And I don't even have a TV.

Also, CNN is keeping a live blog from Baton Rouge. They updated about an hour ago. No news is good news. I think.

I laying awake at five this morning, then finally I caved and got up to watch coverage. I started giggling when I saw Anderson Cooper because I figured Annie would be so happy to hear he's okay!

Seriously, this storm coverage is almost hypnotic...addicting! Yikes. Maybe it's just interesting not to be the one in the middle of said hurricanes, for once.

I'm nervous and twitchy about the whole thing. I just keep reassuring myself that most of my friends from there are not in town right now... but there are some people still there and I really honestly am worried for them.

Stronger than Camille. Holy Moly. I need to stop reading so many articles, because I am scaring myself.

This whole thing is scary and just so completely out of my realm of experience (I'm used to earthquakes and the occassional tsunami warning)... I don't know what to make of it.

I was talking to my mom (who's in Washington State) last night, and she said how glad she was to not have to deal with hurricanes.

I pointed out that hurricanes, at least, you can predict. Earthquakes? There's no defense from that. I can't decide what would be worse--b/c at least an earthquake is over quickly.
