The solution is genetically engineering everyone to be a size 8.
Also: some people like heavy, some people like thin, some people like in between. As long as it's natural and healthy, I've no problem with it; but if someone's unnaturally sickly-thin or morbidly obese, that's when I'll be like "well um no".
I've never really had the problem of people being unpleasant because of my size, but I don't want it happening either :( And yes, just making demeaning comments about 'legs like twigs' (or legs like barrels, it works both ways of course) makes it okay for more people to be mean, it should just stop completely :/
I think the discrimination against slim people is mostly a North American thing, since obesity is so common here. However, that doesn't make it okay.
I don't go out of my way to call people lardos or whatever to their faces or behind their backs, so what gives other people the right to do that to me?
It happens here in Britain too. I never had anything quite as horrible as people trying to break my arms, but a lot of people make fun of my shape. It's like they think that because I'm really thin it's okay to make fun of me, as if it's not hurtful just because I have the body shape they want. People have asked my sisters if I'm anorexic after seeing me at a ballet class.
Magazines over here (even the ones that supposedly stand up for 'real' women) contantly print articles about how much more attractive and healthy curvy women are, even that they're cleverer on average, it's pretty depressing for people who are naturally thin.
That's terrible! It's understandable for the media to pander to such a vocal group, but I was hoping that the UK wouldn't be as stupid about it as North America. :(
On balance I think everyday people are nicer over here, but the media is much more harsh. Actual obesity is also frowned upon despite its growing prevalence. My sister thinks it might be because if they advocate skinniness a lot of women will starve themselves, but if they advocate being curvy the worst that will happen is skinny people will overeat (or that's how it looks to the publishers anyway) and of course if they say 'everyone is beautiful in their own way, the end' they won't sell as many magazines, since we all only buy them because it gives us a false sense of superiority.
Strangely, this is the same sister who buys the magazines...
