Okay, I just got back from feeding kittehs, and the whole time I was driving there and back I was thinking about how now Ginny is totally a Slytherin in my head, and what that means for me when I re-read the books. HAH.
What do I especially love about this chapter? Maybe the way that Draco is totally more creepy to a lone Slytherin Weasley than to any Gryffindor Weasley in history, purely by virtue of her being alone? Also, I love how all the smart people are all watching Ginny.
And I love the ambiguity of Snape's conversation with Ginny. And also how awesome Ginny is.
And how sad it is she didn't get to go to the Yule Ball. :-( (WHAT I AM SHALLOW.)
I think the creep factor with Draco probably also has something to do with the fact that Ginny is a girl, sadly. Kind of insane what a difference that makes, isn't it?
(Oh, Snape.)
Thanks for reading and being indignant on my behalf. ;)
Hurray for another installment! I really love how you're handling this concept. Really, so much love.
I had many squee-moments during this (including when I realized there was a Part II). The scene with Snape, LUNA!, Ginny facing her demons and coming out stronger in the end, the ambiguity of Slytherin that really wasn't touched upon in other mediums (the divide was always so black & white in the books, and I love that they're really a house of grey)... so, basically the entire piece. And the last scene with Draco? So satisfying after everything that had happened. Really, just excellent. I love your Ginny.
Thank you! Giving Slytherin more of a nuanced look was really the main impetus behind this entire series. I always felt that for such a message of inclusion, the Slytherins were terribly stereotyped. All the evil people in one corner please! Lol.
I like how Tobias, Smita and Ginny are like the slytherin version of Harry, Ron and Hermione. Except for the constant peril they get into lol. I love how Ginny is slowly learning herself and her place in the Slytherin house and doesnt immediately find her footing, that she is still struggling. She is such a great character.
This makes me wish that Ginny was actually a Slytherin in the books. The handling of Ginny's character is one of the most irritating things about the series for me. Thank you for this. !!
Thank you! I do like the idea of creating her into an even more interesting and dynamic character that also happens to make a pretty interesting love match possibility for Harry. (I really just like to throw characters through a gauntlet and see how they deal with it. ;)
