Ficcity Fic (and Evolution = Awesome)

Apr 23, 2011 16:45

I have been uploading my fic to AO3 over the last week or so. (63 down, all the scary multiple chapter ones left to go. Oh, gods, String Theory, you are going to kill me.) It has been fun to skim over old fics. Made me very nostaligic, and also kind of depressed, as I apparently used to be quite prolific. Now I am...not so much. Not sure what ( Read more... )

fic rec: harry potter, fic rec: sga, fic rec: sam/jack, fic rec: sanctuary

Yes. I was sorting through paper, but it was the same sort of feeling. I used to write so much...

Did we grow up, is that it?

God, I hope that's not it. Because I was pretty old when I first started fanfic. Lol.

I enjoy AO3. The import is a little tricky although I've found it easy to import from ff.net. I've run into an issue with Word though (either it adds random bullet point lists and/or drops entire paragraphs). I ended up putting a disclaimer on my stories that if anyone sees something funky that I missed to let me know.

Once it's out of Beta testing though I think it'll be AWESOME - something clean and neat to rival ff.net.

I think someone mentioned how easy it is to download fic from AO3 to the Kindle and that was what sparked me to finally get up off my ass and start putting stuff up there. I was importing from ffnet, but I tend to do a little obsessive editing on LJ, so I wanted those versions of the fics up there (yes, I'm crazy, I know). So I have been copy pasting most of the fics manually.

Evolution is one of my go-to rewatch episodes, because it is just fantastic on every level.

I am feeling nostalgic for your fic, as well! I have never been prolific (well, not in a decade, at least), but I figure I would rather (and rather have my favorite authors) write good stories that I and others enjoy and can reread. I reread your stuff fairly frequently. :)

And speaking of reading, I've been enjoying your recs lately, especially the Sanctuary stories!

Evolution is just so squee worthy. It's like everything I love about Stargate all rolled up into one episode. Love.

I have been hoping to distract people from my lack of writing by posting a lot of recs. Lol. I'm trying to decide how self-absorbed it is to admit I re-read some of my fic myself. Lol. It's one of the reasons I love random out of the blue comments on old stories, because it usually leads to me reading it again. That can be fun, or mortifying, depending on the story. :)

Oh, I reread my stories all the time. I don't think it's self-absorbed at all! Or, if it is, then most authors are completely self-absorbed and we're all in excellent company!

Evolution! I love Evolution *so much*, but when I watch the episodes in order I always have this huge whiplash between it and Grace. I always felt like there needed to be a buffer episode in between those two.

It's funny, I'm not sure I ever watched that section of the show in order, because when I noticed Grace was the ep right after I was like, what? Really? I would love to know if AT and RDA deliberately played up the bits in Evolution or if that was a lot of editing. Then again, I honestly don't care because it is SO AWESOME and that is enough. :)

What is AO3?

I don't know why I love Evolution so much--but there have been times when I simply watched it over and over for days.

And yes, I've noticed about the reduced writing thing. Is there anything we can do to help? Chocolate, maybe? :D

AO3 = Archive Of Our Own It's the fan archive hosted by the OTW (Organization for Transformative Works). It's a pretty nice place to browse for fic. It's still in beta. I've noticed the caliber of writing there is rather high, but I'm not sure if that is just random surfing luck or what.

I have no idea what is going on with my muse these days. I've had some fairly insanely stressful last few months, but usually that just makes me write more as an escape. Not this time I guess. I am also quite obsessed with this Ginny Weasley fic. I feel like I need to get it out of my system so I can move on to other things. Lol.

Hmm. I've been using ff.net as my archive from LJ but they've always made me a little nervous. I'll look into AO3.

Sometimes stress needs to be skimmed off, and writing can be quite useful for capping the volcano (better than hosing down a room, right?) but sometimes the other reaction is tiredness and you need to pamper yourself and rest. (Wow, long sentence.)

Um, puzzled. I tried searching for you there and couldn't find you?

Also, I've been trying to find an explanation for the tag "No Archive Warnings Apply." Could you explain?
