Eurovision context...

I know, some of my friends have already posted a video of the winner... but hey, it doesn't mean i can't do it myself !! :)
So this year Sweden won the Eurovision... and France arrived 22d rank on 26 countries participating. We suck. It's like a tradition in France to lose the Eurovision. We do it with an annoying regularity...

But enough rambling ( Read more... )

I still can't believe those russian grannies scored second place. I thought they were gruesome. I only watched the russian and german entry and the last 10min of the show. Although I think it's cool Sweden won, I didn't like the song.

I hoped so much that these lovely grannies would win. :)
I guess they needed the prize money more that anybody else in the competition (Swedish television that doesn't usually seems to like Russians had a story about these old ladies and their attempts to earn money to build a new church in their village).

The French song sounded a bit better in the video that was shown before the ESC but the perfomance in the contest lacked something compared to that video.
I like the song from 1977 though. It is beautiful!

They needed the money, that's for sure, but was the Eurovision really the place to do something like that? Not sure...

And yes, the song from 1977 was charming !

Why not? I loved their perfomance. And as far I can see many other people did as well.
To my mind the grannies were the only ones who spread the joy and party feeling and seemed to have fun on the stage. All the others seemed just tensed and self-centered. Plus I am pretty tired of the tendence to be as naked and sexy and young as possible. So to see these old ladies was pretty refreshing. And I absolutely can't understand individuals who call them "gruesome" and stuff. Have they never had a grandmother? Were they unlucky to have gruesome grandmothers? Or are they just simply afraid of getting old some day and believe that their lives will last longer if they only see young and fresh skinny models?
I personally think that these grannies are totally adorable. I hope I can do something like this and have fun when I am in their age .

I certainly don't deny the fact that they were cute, in their own way. And I hope to have that much fun at their age too. Not sure that their song represents the tendency in Russia at the moment though... For me, but that only concerns me, Eurovision is supposed to promote and make people discover the kind of music that other nations listen to at the moment. And then the jury vote, based not only on their taste, but also on the performance. (which may or may not prove that no one like the musical taste of France. I'm not surprised... ) I have no idea what are the requisite to enter the contest though..

Thanks for posting. I heard about the grannies on NPR, and am glad I have now gotten to see them! You're right, they were *authentic*.

I quite liked the winning song - well, not so much that I would sit and listen to it at home, but compared to most of the others!

I know a lot of people thought the grannies were cute and fun but I really, really hated their song!

My little one loved the granny song but I just thought this contest wasn't the place, they could have simply made a charity record. I was for Sweden to win as it was it was the only fully rounded performance of the competition, everyone else had smth missing at some point whether it be the singing, the music or the dancing/stage presence. I fully hated Turkey and Macedonia, unfortunately they did rather well, goes to show the voting is sometimes too political...
