Oh, LJ Genie, hivemind, whoever's out there on a Friday night, I need help (and I tried Google, which didn't answer me). Have any of you got experience flying with an external hard drive? I'm trying to decide whether I should pack it in checked luggage (wrapped in bubblewrap) or carry it in my backpack? I suspect it arouses suspicion no matter

The last time I flew with an external hard drive, they made me turn it on. AIGH!! This was 20+ years ago, but I'm sure they're even more hardass about it now. So I'd suggest checking it unless it parks its own heads when you turn it off.
