1. The New Yorker has an interesting article, The Child Trap: The rise of overparenting, that talks about "hothouse parents". While DD has her issues, I don't think we can be accused of the sort of 'overparenting' detailed in this article. I'm talking "going off the deep end" enmeshment in the kid's life. Oy.

I'm not sure about the Dillard's gift cards; but most Walgreens (and similar places) have Visa gift cards - which he could use for whatever he felt like.

Hmm, good point. I'll check that out too.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'm even going to send out Christmas cards or a letter this year. Too drained and broke :(

A lot of Dillards stores are closing--make sure your Dad knows that.

This year a LOT of stores are closing and selling gift cards, which won't be any good once they close :(

Ha, ha - the upskirt article reminded me of high school when my mother would stop me on the way out the door, yank up my skirt, and make sure that I was wearing biking shorts underneath. She was very stringent about that...like those shorts were my protection against the world. LOL!

The over-parenting stuff...I see it all the time, but I really can't say anything since I don't have kids of my own. I understand the need to protect your kids, but I can see how it cripples them at the same time. My parents sheltered me quite a bit, so I had a hard time when I first went to college. I actually went a little wild but eventually got back on track. :)

Watch out for giftcards (I don't know Dillards). Lots of companies are downsizing or going out of business. I saw a list of some of the local based stores today that are filing bankruptcy. It's scary!
