*flails* Priceline? Hotwire? Help?!

Well, I didn't manage to purchase my plane tickets last night and now I'm feeling really anxious about it. I really do NOT want to spend $400 (or more) for tickets to New Orleans, which is sort of what the current prices are like, unless I want to fly at 6:30 a.m. on April 4 and/or 7. I want to be gone only from Friday 4/4 through Monday 4/7. The wedding is on Sunday, 4/6, so I'm thinking my plan would cause the least disruption for my family. I can't fly any later than Saturday 4/5, and I should return by Tuesday, 4/8, but tinkering with the dates (4/4 - 4/7 vs. 4/5 -4/8 vs. 4/4 - 4/8) doesn't seem to affect the price. It looks like I can get a cheaper price by changing planes twice. UGH. Two plane changes would probably be:
* Madison to Chicago to Charlotte, NC, to New Orleans, or
* Madison to Cincinnati to Atlanta to New Orleans, or
* Madison to Atlanta to Dallas/Fort Worth to New Orleans, or
* Madison to Chicago to DFW to New Orleans
Those are my best cases, on US Air (the first one), or Delta, or possibly American, or United. UGH.

I can't drive because I'm going by myself, we've got only 1 reliable car, and I'm not driving 1,000 miles alone. (Not to mention it would add at least a day to my trip and I'd be exhausted. People with fibromyalgia do not take looong car trips alone.)

Has any of you actually used Priceline or Hotwire to buy plane tickets? What was your experience? Did you get totally sucky flight times? Did you actually save the amount of money you'd expected?

I hate having too many options.

Poll Which option should I choose
