1. Darling Daughter and I did the Saturday shopping errands fairly early (see #2). When we got to the supermarket, it was insanely hard to find a parking space. Apparently everyone on the east side of town had decided to shop for groceries early in the afternoon because of the storm that we expected to get Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. A and I considered seeing Juno, but the end of the brief description on Movies.com turned him off: But is giving the child away really what she wants to do deep down in her heart? He was worried it was going to be the stereotypical stupid movie about adoption. I'll probably see it by myself or with friends some time.

I remember being the babysitter (for my 3 younger sisters) at age 10 whenever my parents went out for the night, so unless we're talking about a very scared girl (my parents would never have left my youngest sister at home by herself at the age, because she frightens easily), I imagine 11 1/2 is not too young to stay at home for a short evening, as long as there might be an option of people to call if she hears a noise or things like that.

Ironically, a few months ago we went out and left her at the house with her best friend, CH. During the evening they heard a beeping noise and freaked out and went next door to the neighbor's house. The neighbors checked around the house and couldn't find where the noise was coming from. It turned out to be a text-messaging toy that had a digital alarm you can't turn off. Eventually we threw the thing away because it was so annoying.
