I remember Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart because he popped up sometimes with 4 and 5. But apparently he got started with Doctor 3 or earlier. But no idea about Sgt. Benton.
I've no clue who that is. Mr. Muse knew, but he's an uber fan from his college years. Apparently, he's the right-hand man (muscle) of Brigadier General Lethbridge-Stewart, who was the head of UNIT during the John Pertwee and Tom Baker years. Hope that helps. :)
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! Sounds like you might need some rest now.
Benton worked for UNIT as part of Lethbridge-Stewart's team. He came in during Jon Pertwee's era, when the Doctor got stuck on earth. I think he's considered a companion, but don't think he ever actually travelled in the TARDIS.
Lethbridge-Stewart is the only companion to have known six doctors, although the actor who plays ALS was in a first doctor ep, but not as the Brigadier.
Thank you for the explanation :D I became a Whovian with Tom Baker; never really saw the show before he came on as Number 4. Stuck with it through Number 5 (Peter Davison) then my local Public Broadcasting affiliate either stopped showing Dr. Who or ran it at ridiculous times. I don't really remember Benton at all, but I do remember Lethbridge-Stewart from Dr. 4.
