Yrae stones are boring. No, really, they are. Magic stones have been done to death and I'm bored stiff of them. Magic stone in bangle that MAGICALLY can't come off their wrists? Come on. So clearly invented by a seventeen-year-old. The more I think about the damn stones, the more I want something different. This has been a serious niggle for the ( Read more... )

Embedding under the skin sounds cool, but squicks me soooo bad.

I'm just posting this cos I want the world to know I'm awesome.

bloo narti (12:53:21): also, there are far too many workings in hands for the feather to be practical there. wrist it is =(
furrysolexi (12:53:53): Why not upper arm?
furrysolexi (12:54:06): like it creeps up through their skin to their upper arms?
furrysolexi (12:54:19): a grossy writing moment, but then it's there and not impeeding movements
bloo narti (12:54:21): cos I~ never thought of that
furrysolexi (12:55:01): it'd still be noticeable with their dessert outfits with no sleeves and all
bloo narti (12:55:04): GENIUS
furrysolexi (12:55:09): but it wouldn't affect their joints
bloo narti (12:55:11): that's why I keep you around
furrysolexi (12:55:25): plus I think upper arm relates to wings more than a hand or wrists, for some reason
furrysolexi (12:55:31): That's why ANYONE keeps me around XD

Why do they need to be a metal feather? *curious* (Also, asking because if it doesn't have to be a metal feather, it could be made of something more flexible and then 'may wouldn't have potential swordfighting issues. Alternatively, you could put it in that hand which doesn't wield a sword?)

It has to be SHINY (or at least, impressive in its own right) cos otherwise the girlies wouldn't be halfway tempted to touch them in the first place, and it has to be durable because Yan's is over 4000 years old now. I know I could fall back on magic for both of those, but using an actual material is just nicer. If you can think of anything else that'd fit the bill let me know <3!

As for swordfighting hand, Raykinian swords are two-handed, unfortunately XD;

Hmm. I'd say that it depends on what yrae are. How many living organisms do you know that are partially composed of a metal? Even in magical world like this one, I'd need more information to believe that's credible. (Truth, gemstones was stretching it too.)

Maybe yrae teeth? Yes, I know, they're birds. Work with me a moment and hear me out? You have animals (such as sharks, I think) that are made (that sounds weird) mostly out of material that doesn't fossilise. But teeth do. Possibly other things you could look into too that would fit more with the bird theme. You'd have an organic material for your yrae magic. (That's coincidentally a lot smaller than feathers and if the arm-placement above doesn't work out might still leave you free to go with your original hand idea.)

Or, possibly, if you wanted to go really gross and worked out a way of preservation, you could go old folklore school and put all the magic in yrae hearts that Yan sneakily feeds the twins somehow and then the hearts attach to their innards. Removing them would be ( ... )
