New Ficlet: Till the End

A while back when I was wrapping up Marking Time, I got stuck on the final part. To help break the block, I switched gears and started writing free-flow. Not sure why, but the first of this angsty fill-in-the-blanks ficlet was the result. Finally finished it, so hope you like…

This is what I imagine happening that summer. Spike as Dawn's guard dog day and night. I always thought it would be Tara letting him stay. But you really brought Willow out here. The way you have it I could see her being okay with Spike hanging around Dawn. Not even Willow could deny that she wanted and needed Spike. Willow could be obtuse at times but she would have had to be blind, deaf and dumb to not see that Dawn needed him.

But you really brought Willow out here. The way you have it I could see her being okay with Spike hanging around Dawn.

Thank you very much. I always regretted the show never explored a Willow and Spike relationship, particularly in Season 7. At that point, they were in similar places and I think they could have related to and helped each other in ways that none of the other characters could. Ah well.

Finally, she makes a tentative try. "Before…what you did…what you said when she opened the blinds and burned you…I wanted to thank you. For not blaming her, I mean."

I adore this exchange, how he asks about Tara, the way she thanks him, and his surprise. I would have loved more interactions like this in the show, the Scoobies acknowledging him.

Believe it. Accept it.

Ooh, this is rather chilling, given canon. No, she won't accept it.

Oh, I know what you mean. Seeing Spike from other POVs is a favorite kink of mine. I also like seeing all of the characters and/or relationships from on outsider's perspective. Those are fun and fascinating to me!

This was so wonderful, hon! I'd forgotten how much I loved the dynamic between Spike and Dawn. And showing it through Willow's eyes was a wonderful touch. Excellent!

I really missed the Spike and Dawn friendship when the show dropped it. Kept hoping they would eventually reconcile, but alas, it was not meant to be. So I keep writing my own reconciliations in fic. Heh.

I love this! Great dynamic between Spike & Willow. I'm a huge sucker for Spike & Dawn, but the way you write Willow here really grabs me. Her guilt especially feels very "willowy".

I'm crazy about Spike and Dawn, too. As for Willow, when I first started watching the show she was my favorite character. It was hard to see her dive off the deep end the way she did later on. At this point in time, she's teetering, but hasn't fallen yet. So she's still the Willow that was always concerned about respecting the feelings of others.

Alas, that was about to change...
