As this was the fourth e-mail/post/comment I'd read in the last few days wondering the same thing, I figured I'd cut & paste something I wrote on a discussion board and post it here as a general thingy for anyone who's ( Read more... )

awesome summary.

And then of course you run the risk of electing Senator Palpatine Prime Minister, which really sucks.

I thought the vote of no confidence was to kick Senator Palpatine out? *g*

Jack Layton and Stéphane Dion lounging shirtless in a big round waterbed whispering sweet nothings to each other. Also Gilles Duceppe is dressed as a madam, with a feather boa, and standing behind them grinning approvingly.

there are no words...

OMG! You chaps are doing 1970s Australian politics! Go off and google Gough Whitlam, John Kerr and The Dismissal and prepare to be startled! The starting positions are reversed, but the end result is eerily similar!

Wiki is fine as a source for links and as a starting point that you chase up references for. I say this about 300 times a day, usually followed with 'But if you don't stop using it as your primary research tool, I will club you to death with my keyboard.'

(Do you think the Queen is just shaking her head and saying 'Oh bloody hell, not again!'?)

minor point. Canadians elect federal MPs not Ministers.

Now I'm off to scrub my eyes in an attempt to remove that image of shirtless Canadian politicians.

:O

This is what I thought was happening, but I always feel like I'm trying to grasp smoke when I hear about Canadian politics. So, I guess it's a relief that I wasn't looking at the picture upside down... but shite, that's a mess.

Anyway, thank you!!!

Should've mentioned: we also have a Marijuana Party ;)

Yeah, quite. To be honest I don't know who to root for right now. I mean, all right, I wouldn't actually root for Stephen Harper, but you know what I mean. It's a bit of a clusterfuck all around.

Anyway, thank you!!!
You're welcome!

That was very interesting! All I knew was that something weird was going on... *Should pay more attention to world politics* Now I think I mostly understand. (I may have to pay a visit to wiki also.)
