Excellent job setting up the characters in this chapter. Merlin is in character and I love how wide eyed and open he is. His admission to everyone that he doesn't follow football and Camelot wouldn't be the team he followed if he did showed he's no fanboy (though he really is a bit).

Arthur's staring and Merlin's magic bucking under his skin were a bit disconcerting, but Merlin got into a rhythm after the introductions were made and his enthusiasm about being on the pitch was lovely.

Things were going swimmingly until Merlin happened upon the three footballers teasing that assistant. Merlin standing up to Arthur was a thing of beauty. Arthur was being a jerk, both to the assistant and then to Merlin, he totally deserved that black eye. His jerkish behavior was tempered by him standing up for Merlin, though.

I love that Elena is Merlin's BFF here. That scene where she chugged Merlin's beer had me laughing. I'm looking forward to her meeting Gwaine. I bet they'd have a great time together!
