five fancies

Do you think it's possible for your soul to be born after your body is? I was born in March, but I've never really felt like a March baby. March is an old woman, her joints stiff from the bitter winter cold. She wishes desperately to dance and play and sing like in her younger years, but her body is too worn to move like she used to ( Read more... )

In my country, we believe that we get new bodies. Our souls are just placed inside them. So who knows when your soul would have been born?

I'm a spring baby myself, to most of the people I know. But where I come from, there are two seasons, the hot season and the wet season, and I'm born in the wet season.

What a lovely idea! Wouldn't it be romantic to be the reincarnation of Guinevere or the Lady of Shallot? Do you think souls grow old, or are they suspended outside of time?

Where were you born?

I think that they grow older. And wiser. And eventually they want to do new things, or enlighten themselves. That's just how it works in my belief system, though.

I was born in south India in a place called Chennai, that used to be called Madras. On April 8th.

My soul must be very young, then. How are souls born?

You were born in the Indies? How exotic!

How can you not love March? In the middle of a humid summer, fifty degrees is absolutely freezing. In March? It's like a heatwave. No jacket, water from the melting snow everywhere. As a kid, I loved to play in the mud and make mud pies with my friends. We'd put them in little dishes and set them out to dry. It was so fun!

Oh, I like March perfectly well. I just don't feel like I belong to it.

I guess I've never really thought about that before. I wonder if being born in July says something about me...

Perhaps. Maybe your soul was born before your body. I think that could happen.

I was born in November. I'm not sure what that means,

Mohinder said the same thing. I rather like that idea.

I love November. It just begs you to curl up with a blanket and a book by the fire and get cozy.

Well - spring is already beginning, is it not? It's showing its first few signs.

When's your birthday, Anne?

Yes, but it hasn't really made up its mind to be spring yet.

On Friday. I'll be turning 12!

It needs some time to get there. Give it that time.

Okay, I'll remember that.
