Watching the President's speech at the Giffords memorial reminds me why I voted for the man two years ago.

That may have been one of the best speeches he's given since his stumping days. *sniff*

Ack! Ice on the satellite means I've missed his speech and the memorial service. Hubby is on the phone now with tech support.

Yikes! I'm sure it'll be uploaded to YouTube by tomorrow at the latest, if not later tonight. It was a very moving speech. Probably the news websites will have it uploaded as well.

That's the entire memorial which ran about 1-1/2 hours, with multiple speakers. Obama was last. If you link to that, then look over on the right hand side of the page, you'll find a link listed just to Obama's part of the program. But if you want to watch everything, it'll be there.

Yeah, it really reminded me of him when he was stumping for the Presidency. I also believe he wrote the speech himself instead of having his speech writer do it. But I forget where I heard that.

I manage to avoid the news so completely these days I didn't know about the shooting until I saw you mention it in your LJ. I wondered what the flags at half-staff were for.

We create such monsters in this culture of ours; why are we surprised when we find them under our beds?

Honestly, I only hear about these things now if I'm reading twitter. Then if it sounds like something I need to find out more about, that's when I go on the net or turn on the tube and see what the hell is happening. So I guess the whole stupid concept is good for stumbling across quickie soundbites of real news.

Otherwise, I'm with you, I don't read the paper or watch the news that much anymore. And WRT local news, I usually have it on if I'm trying to find out about the weather.

Doesn't your mom still watch all the news shows and read the papers? She doesn't clue you in when something big is going on?

That bunker in Montana is sounding more and more like a good idea, eh?

Yup, Mom still engages in the news, but mostly watched financial news outlets on TV (And McNeill-Lehrer). We seldom talk. ;)

Yeah, only I'm starting to think we may have to arm ourselves. :((((
