Seriously, I call a do-over of the summer (though maybe without the brutal heat). I'm so not ready for September, or fall, or (killmenow) the holidays
( Read more... )
I had to look this one up, but it was something I had to check out, as the powers-that-be where I work seem to have signed up the institution for a Facebook page (why?!!) -- and then made a VERY big hoo-ha re employees who might make disparaging remarks or ones relating to patients... which prompted me to change my listing on my mostly-ignored Facebook page to "Bertha's Kitty Boutique"..
I could be wrong here, but it seems that you have to go into your account settings and specifically tell LJ that you WANT such a thing... some folk are more gregarious than I, and might like the convenience of not posting something twice. Mine is a mostly private journal, that only people who are also my friends in Real Life (TM) get to poke around in.
Granted, I made damn sure that my settings in such regard were "Not on your tintype"..!

Yeah, I can't really tell. I already have my settings tweaked to where my LJ shouldn't show up in search engines, or anything like that. I don't know, it's always something, and people are always screaming about this or that. No, I don't want folks to even have the option of doing something so stupid and rude, and I guess that's the point, because you can't police everyone.
OK, I did the CSS tweak, and made certain to view this in YOUR style instead of mine, and sure enough... while there's still text that says "repost to", there is nothing to choose and no check boxes to select. I went ahead after I replied to one of The Homegirls' entries and found check boxes, albeit greyed-out and unselectable ones... you reckon that if enough of us do this, they will realize that we are voting with our feet on this (or at least with our CSS code) and decide this was perhaps a bad idea, and perhaps chose LiveJournal precisely because it didn't do such things...
And because I was a journalism major back in the day, and every bone in my body says "Check your sources" I went to to the LJ FAQ and it seems they are trying to maintain peoples' privacy and are working on fixes. FWIW -- I'm viewing this in my style and what I'm seeing is unlabeled greyed-out check boxes... fascinating, yes?
Why would anyone post someone else's stuff on their facebook or twitter at all, much less do it without permission? That's copyright infringement. Not to mention just plain rude.

It's all that, and then some. But, I guess that's the problem - you can't police everyone, and you can't count on people not being rude. *sigh*
Summer's end is hitting me particularly hard this time around. But I think I say that every single year. Then again, I've never been sick for the last part of it, adding to the sense of feeling cheated.
I hadn't heard about the newest LJ brouhaha. Not cool at all! Thanks so much for that link.

I'm sorry you've been sick, especially this time of year that you love. For me, this summer has simply meant unbearable brutal heat and almost no rain. And then I too was sick for about a month (July). In other words, while I hate the fact that the year is flying by, the summer wasn't so great. Plus, this is Florida - it'll be "summer" until Thanksgiving, if not Christmas. ;)
