New TV tried, series goodbyes, and a bzzzzzzy weekend

I just commented in a couple of LJs about last night's unbelievably fabulous game-changing finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - and I could kick some fracking producer ass right now. Those guys spent the lion's share of the second season doing nothing but dragging their collective feet and the story line to the point where I was just ( Read more... )

In other words, it was rote viewing, and I had already gotten to the point where I knew I wouldn't care when the show was officially canned.

I've felt the same. I'm invested enough in the Terminator universe to want to know what happens, but I'd already reached the point where I didn't care to subject myself to Lena Headey's dreary performance or the molasses-like progression of… well, I'd say plot, but plot, what plot? ;)

Personally, I didn't care for anything to do with the Jesse storyline or her character, and that dislike eventually spread to Reilly and continued on to Reese. She was poison to every character she interacted with.

If it had come back another year, I was determined to read recaps only.

considering he's attached to a new fall Pilot.

Is he?! What is it?

The Spousal Unit was mowing the backyard and was suddenly surrounded by hundreds of bees. I hope the SU wasn't stung, or stung too badly! It figures that the bees show up to take residence right after you've put so much work into sprucing the yard up (for ( ... )

I'm so glad someone else labeled Headey's performance as "dreary." I thought I was the only one.

Heh. Judging by the ratings slide for what ought to have been a huge genre show, I'm guessing there are a few more of us out there. *g*

I find the whole thing kind of baffling. For a show that purported to be about one particular character, why would they cast, write, and direct her to be so close-mouthed and impenetrable that it's hard for us to know what she's all about, let alone care? I kept waiting for Sarah to get proactive and get back to kicking ass, but instead she got progressively more mopey and emo.

And, really, what a dumb choice to make it the "Sarah" chronicles. Sarah is about the only character in the show who isn't on some sort of journey. Everyone else's story is far more interesting, with many more possibilities.

I just felt Sarah was so self-righteous and annoying.

Cameron and Derek Reese were my favorite characters, and for a while there Cameron was hardly on and Derek Reese was tied up with the Jesse storyline, and I couldn't stand her so he was ruined.

And then there was the "let's give John a beard so Thomas Dekker can try (and fail) at playing straight" - which didn't do them any favors. (Oddly, I did see some John/Cameron chemistry... so I guess he can fake it sometimes)

Wow! Scary about the bees! I hope the removal goes smoothly.

I liked SOUTHLAND, and I'm very willing to give it a chance. Hopefully NBC won't be total asshats. They've got a ton of shows not worth turning on the tv for, so you'd think they might actually keep SOUTHLAND. In fact, I think it's the only NBC show I'm watching right now.

I have a recording of THE UNUSUALS which I will watch. It's against CSI:NY, so unless the idiots kill off Flack in their "a major character is going to die!" finale, I'll watch that instead.

I wouldn't trust NBC to make any decent creative decisions right now. The network has crashed and burned, and I wouldn't be surprised to see their schedule taken over by game shows and reality shows, with only a handful of comedies and dramas total - maybe. At this point, I assume everything is on the chopping block - except Heroes which has inexplicably been renewed for another year already (I think they do it to save face because they invested so much in it after the freshman season).

I'll be interested to hear what you think of The Unusuals.

The clan's usual Friday night gathering went well last night. We chose Chinese and shared 12 different entrees. I always order beef with snow peas.
We all joined in a toast to Vermont and Iowa for their official recognition of Gay marriage. I have two high school friends who will now be able to marry, so I was particularly happy.

As for your bee problem, it is fairly common. But you need to get it taken care of because a swarm can be very dangerous. Are there Africanized bees in your area yet?

My mother had the same experience in her yard, I was in the side yard raking leaves and she was in the front yard pruning azaleas, when she was swarmed from an underground bee nest. I don't mean to make light of what could have been a very dangerous situation. But I had no idea my 75 year old mother could jump that high and run that fast. She was only stung a couple of places because when she works outside she wears long sleeves and a large floppy sun hat for protection against sunburn. The bees mainly stung her cloths and not her.

Iowa was a total shocker, wasn't it? Who would have thunk it?!? It's almost like these states want to hurry up and make sweeping civil changes now just in case Obama doesn't win a second term.

I don't know - haven't heard specifically, but I wouldn't be surprised. I think they're everywhere in Florida - maybe not in large numbers yet, but they're out there. *gulp*

The entomologist said to wait a couple days - they could move on as they tend to do. But they're still here today, so I'm afraid I'll be calling him back on Monday to come out and get rid of these pests!

I was sorry to hear about Andy Hallet's death, too. The poor guy.

Re: TSCC. I liked the series but haven't been able to watch it much. I've been away a lot and then it was on an obscure channel late at night. But when I did see it, I thought it had its moments. The swimming pool/Johnny Cash scenes, for example, were awesome. To a lot of Terminator fans I know, the series just seemed like it was a stopgap until the new movies came out.

OMG, the swimming pool scene was incredible! I think that was the first season finale - or the penultimate episode of that season. That was damn good story-telling!

The second season is a full 20 or 22 episodes, I believe, and will be out on dvd soon enough (the first season is already out on dvd). So at this point I'd say wait and pick up the dvds. Best way to catch up with the entire series.

I'm sure a lot of people who tuned in initially were just checking it out as a place-holder until the new movie. Unfortunately, it wasn't what a lot of fans were looking for in the interim, I guess. We stuck with it because of the incredible potential shown in the first season. But, like I said, even we as fans who stuck around were sorely tested this season. The producers blew it, IMO.
