So we'd already seen the Pilot a few months ago and LOVED IT!, but wanted to sit through it again on Sunday night to catch the inevitable shoot-to-air edits. Approved heartily of the fiance recast, preferred the original last shot to the edited last shot they aired instead, and couldn't really detect too many other glaring changes. Overall, still

And I like how they're already trying to work around the third flick thing - which is good, 'cuz the third flick mostly sucked anyway.
I loved the third flick! I never thought they'd have the balls to a) have the last 15-20 minutes be entirely Arnold-free, and b) end on such a down-note. Judgment Day! Yes!

I don't so much care about the no-Ahnald thing as much as feeling like the whole exercise suffered from extended sequel-itis, like so many genres. It just wasn't my favorite, even though I liked the casting for John Connor.

I love how John tracked him down again in the second episode...
That was my one nit to pick. I loved the scene (and Dean! Winters! It's always a pleasure to see him show up) and I doubly love the prospect of having him complicate (and compliment) their existence, emotionally. That he would become recurring in this timeline was surprising and really inventive.
My issue was with John sneaking out of the house, despite all the prohibitions against it. And, I see how we're supposed to go all "Ah, see, he is a normal teenager, after all; how normally teenager-y of him," but he's not a normal teenager. He's been raised since birth to be radically, acutely aware of security issues, and if he can't sit still for 3 or 4 days when their circumstances are so unsure, I think Sarah wasted a lot of her time on him. And really, there's no reason he couldn't have done all of that once they were 'safer,' as far as I can see, and it wouldn't have made him look so clueless and untrustworthy ( ... )

LOL! I knew I should have qualified my statement before I hit "post". I didn't have problems with the casting - Nick was fine. I just thought the writing was like so many extended sequels before it. By the third one it's getting old, and that's how I felt with this movie.
I'm also really down with how they've managed to keep the tension alive, after the time-leap. They may have dodged a few bullets (Sarah's cancer for one) but brought a lot of the same baggage along, like Intrepid FBI Guy and Abandoned Fiancé. I'm wondering if we have dodged the whole cancer thing. We don't know yet - obviously Sarah is having herself checked out now, and she could still find out she has cancer and one of two things could happen. Better treatment options available now and she beats it (and has to go through all that while still being a kick-ass freedom fighter - *ack*!); or instead of dying two years ago, she discovers ( ... )

Nick was fine.
Okay then. *g*
I think that cancer issue was dealt with pretty clearly: time-jumping heals. Of course, if Sarah is pre-disposed to cancer, it could begin growing all over again now, but presumably she's bought a lot of time before that starts, and it won't become an issue again for a few more seasons.
