And the theme for the weekend is Scripts

Whew. Head spinning weekend of theatre., and I'm not done yet!

Friday night, I volunteered at PushPush. I'd been trying to find out when I needed to be there and if there was a a dress code, and finally spoke with someone on Thursday, so I got there early, had dinner (a fantastic salad with salmon and cherry cobbler after) at Duck's Cosmic ( Read more... )

I've never been tempted by Godspell although I know a lot of fellow thesps who adore it.

It is interesting, reading all your reviews!

Thanks! I wish I could better tell the variety of talent and work I'm seeing, and all the different manifestations. Performances don't have to be done in the same style, or have the same goal, but all of these have been worked on thoroughly by people with high standards.

And gosh, the buildings -- the variety of venues!

I have such a lot of respect for touring reppers. Just taking one show (Magic Flute) on tour to the Stantonbury Campus was so stressful...just the difference between the new venue and the theatre I'd become used to for years!

The Tavern's building used to be a garage, Theatre Decatur is in a former school, PushPush in a warehouse, Actor's Express in a former plow factory. I don't know what the Lyric used to be - a generic small office building, maybe?

The Alliance is the only one in a place built to be a theatre!

I used to love singing the music from Godspell. A lot of it is really nice vocally, but you're right...watching a production isn't nearly as much fun. It is very choppy and frenetic and hard to follow in places. I think it's a show that you just need to enjoy for the music and not try to make a whole lot of sense out of it.

Yes!! I remember thinking that Godspell was probably one of those that's more fun to work on than to watch. That sort of thing can turn very self-indulgent, but the company had a good grasp of playing for the audience.

I've never seen anything at GPC, and I need to change that. Week after next is elliedee's show at GSU, and I'm planning to go to the Friday night show.

I enjoyed Godspell, while being annoyed at the script, if that makes sense? I'd've gladly watched it again, for the performances.

Just missed you--I was at Godspell Friday night with my sister-in-law. I do love the music, and agree that the voices were very good in the Lyric's production. I'd forgotten how saccharine the show gets at times, though, and had some problems with the Lyric's sound as well. Must blog a review of sorts, not that I do them well...
