Shit! My snakes just figured out a way to open the terrarium! They haven't realized it yet but that could be just a matter of time... Of course they would need to work together to achieve anything, one needs to push themselves beneath that branch of apple tree I have in the terrarium and while the branch lifts the roof the other could slip out... Ahaha. I could make so many, many bad jokes right now. *g*

Ahem. So, uh, books. How about Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker? Or a random fantasy novel? Most of my German books are in storage, it seems. Or I could lend you David Eddings' Belgariad saga, if you like that one. Or the Xanth books? Though the latter aren't exactly easy to read.

I guess there is some prime footage for those in this entry ^.^

Are they good translations? Interestingly enough I read through Belgariad and Mallorean in English after I finished with LotR for the first time, Eddings helped me a lot with getting a hang of more modern expressions (and had less words my dictionary didn't recognize :P ) so it could actually be a good choice if German translators are better than Finnish ones (the things they do to poor books... *sigh*). It's always easier to start with something you know well beforehand and I've only read Hitchhiker through once or twice and I seem to remember some points there that were difficult to understand even in English... like that depressed robot... Xanth I'm not familiar with at all so I'd rather read those in English first :) Belgariad may be annoying but I've managed to get past that even before ^.^ I'm just a bit afraid what it would cost to post them here...

It's a decent translation I guess, though it's not like those books are high literature in the first place. German translations tend to mangle the books as well, but these I found okay.

Never mind the postage. I'll just ask that you send them back when you're done. :)

Oh yes, no fear of finding high literature among Eddings' work... I guess that's what makes them good potential books for beginners :)

Thank you, I'm sure I can manage that :) It might take me ages to finish them though... I might have to read them at work (library) if my online dictionary doesn't prove to be enough.
