I'm trying to feed my snakes. One of them apparently isn't interested at all (he's already refused two different rats), and another has decided the correct way to eat a rat is to hang halfway out of her feeding box through the ceiling hatch and cling upside down between the two feeding boxes, supporting the rat against the floor. And if there's ( Read more... )

Sometimes I really despair with them :) But, on a third attempt I did manage to get even Hotep to eat! And after some furious wrestling I even got Ankh back to her box eventually...

I really wished for another pair of arms when I was trying wrestle her out of the ceiling hatch after she finished swallowing the rat and started looking too interested in exploration :) There are no suction caps in a snake so by all logic it shouldn't be able to plaster itself into a smooth plastic wall very tightly, but reality proves that logic wrong...

Lol maybe you need an octopus to keep them in check :)

Heh, I don't even want to imagine how hard it would be to pry them out of an octopus' arms! It's quite an effort to separate even the two snakes from each other ;) You wouldn't believe how much strength there can be even in the last few centimetres of a python's very tiny tail... They are sleeping now in a big pile over the heat pad, looking very innocent indeed, and luckily I shouldn't need to try to move them in a week or two at least unless they manage to go and upend their water container again :)
