Throughout history, societies have arranged for people to congregate and engage in shared activities. The ancient world had a full schedule of feast days and rituals. In Greece, for example, the annual Thesmophoria brought together the town’s adult women to act out their hope that the coming year would be a fertile one. So, ummm... ready to share?

Ha! I used to walk past this Ceres on my way to work; she tops the Chicago Board of Trade, where all the grain trades were made. I miss her. I'll admit she looks better from the ground up than nose-to-nose, as it were. It's been about 20 years since she was part of my commute, but I really do still miss her.

However, one of our family sayings, when one of the kids turns their nose up at what is being served for dinner is "well, there's more for us!".
