Dunce Needs Help

Dec 08, 2011 11:27

Oh, for cryin' out loud. I am Having A Day and apparently am too stupid this morning for even the most basic internet chores. I have been looking at this web page for five minutes and still cannot find where the download button is for the vector version of the wing images. Can you? And if so, can you tell me?

health, personal, html, graphic

Ouch, honey. Just ouch. So sorry.

Now, let me go look at that site and see if I can help.

Falling Apart ankhorite December 8 2011, 17:05:24 UTC
For the past year, I've been in a ghastly, ghastly family situation (which explains my L J absence) and it's been beating the hell out of me physically, too.

On October 15, 2010, the stress caused me to break out in... was it poison ivy? no. hives? no. Shingles!

And I still have them, 13 months later!

And I'm whiney. Even *I* don't wanna hang out with me today. :)

Oh, plz go check your L J mail.

The "download" wings prompt right under the red wings goes to a movie ad, but if you go right under that, you have three choices -- media fire, rapid, something. Seems like those work -- I clicked on one and got a download wings site.

Download Prompt ankhorite December 8 2011, 16:57:24 UTC
SHEEEEESH. I had seen that but assumed it was a link to some other commercial service, like most of the other button clutter.

Okay, so I go there. They want you to sign up for premium "gold" service. I don't wanna. So they put up a timer and make me wait for the download to begin as punishment. Then they reveal a Captcha screen which is so small, I have to reload it four times before I get images I can actually see well enough to re-type. THEN they tell me to wait 22 seconds for the download to complete, and it does -- but they don't tell me that. I have to check the Firefox Download Manager screen to see that the file did, indeed, download.

Good gawdz. Okay. Will edit the entry to add. Thank you so much!

I offer many gentle hugs, should you want them.

I'm sorry life has been stressing you out so much; I wish there was something I could do to help. For what it's worth, I've been thinking of you lately. I played with the idea of seeing if you wanted me and a friend to come visit you over my winter break, but I don't think it makes monetary sense for me to do it, even if you were up to having visitors, which you may not be.

But one of these days I want to come see you again. You are one of my best ever photography critics! *smiles*

You know you're always welcome to send me an email or give me a call if you want to chat about anything, right?

Staying In Touch ankhorite December 9 2011, 22:58:46 UTC
Eh, I need you to email your phone to me AT verizon DOT net. My address book has not yet been recovered from the last crash. :(

Thanks for thinking of the visit. We will do that again someday, but right now, I can't make plans. I'm due in NJ for solstice-etc., and even that may not work out.

My mother & aunt, both in Chicago, are both very ill, and I could be called home at any time. So include your snail addy in the email, so I can figure out if we can do lunch or something, and so on.

Aw, honey.

You know you can call me anytime. Well, probably not between 2am and 8am or thereabouts, since I'm trying to keep saner hours these days, but you could if you were really in need of someone to talk to, and you can always text me to see if I'm up and around. I keep inconsistent hours.

I'll send my phone no. via email.

I'm sorry you're feeling so lousy.

Late Night Calls ankhorite December 9 2011, 22:55:20 UTC
Thank you for sending the phone number.

My old address book is trapped in the broken hard drive, and my geek is no longer in residence.

Gah.

I feel like crap. You know. I will try not to call because I have nothing to say but things you've heard before.

Oh, call me anyway. That's what friends are for.

Reminds me of something I was saying to IHG the other day:

Listening: $30/hour
Giving advice: $40/hour
Giving *good* advice: $50/hour
Pretending I give a damn: $100/hour

Except that I do actually give a damn.

Thanks, again, so much.

I spent Wednesday night teetering on tears, and I spent Thursday night savagely cleaning my closet & dressers, yes, dressers plural, and even allowing that my garments are larger than most folk's garments, good GRAVY, why do I have seventeen cotton summer shirts all of precisely the same style? At least six of which are shades of blue?

Well, because they fit. And most clothes don't. And every year, I'd buy a couple-three when they went on sale.

But still. I look at this, and at my whole life, and just shake my head and sigh.
