Zombieland and G.I. Joe

For my gun buddies, a review of Zombieland.

The movie G.I. Joe is being widely trashed, but someone at Newsweek used the premiere as a hook for this thoughtful article, What If G.I. Joe Were Gay?

PS: I was disappointed so few people saw my post about Wyeth Labs successfully placing 26 fraudulent articles about its menopause treatments in ( Read more... )

I never could stand the GI Joe cartoons; even at that age I knew that they were taking more liberties with the militaria than Roadrunner cartoons did with physics...

G.I. Joe Cartoons ankhorite August 11 2009, 18:12:02 UTC
I don't believe I ever saw a G.I. Joe cartoon!

There were comic books... but I would have read them with a totally uncritical eye.

I did see your post about Wyeth Labs. Sad to say it doesn't surprise me. There is so much bad science being printed on being fat because of the mega-bucks involved (between the diet and pharmaceutical industries), that I have pretty much given up on there being much out there that hasn't been "bought and paid for" in one way or another.

All I know about GI Joe, is my Barbie perferred to date my brother's GI Joe instead of my Ken (and I really didn't blame her)

Oh, sbsolutely better than dating Ken!

And I never gave fat research a thought, but of course you're right, you're right, you're perfectly right.

*sigh*

I got dragged to GI poo last night and at the end, all the (straight, I presume) men in the audience had a goofy grin on, while I was pretty damned pleased to get OUT and found myself desperately seeking Pride & Prejudice. What ho?

Girl Movies v. Boy Movies ankhorite August 11 2009, 18:08:27 UTC
There is, no denying it, a huge gender difference at the ends of the bell curve which is "all movies," with "girl movies" at one end and "boy movies" at the other.

I was dragged to a horrid movie called Death Race 2000 back in 1976 on the very day my childhood dog died. My date thought it would distract me.

No. Jane Austen couldn't have distracted me, either, but at least she wouldn't have left me feeling like I'd been beaten with a Hateful Stick.

Me too on seeing your article about the fraudulent research re: HRT.

In a similar vein, wonder if you know the APA are in the process of bringing out the new DSM.

Now if you want to really see an example of the hand in glove relationship between drug companies and doctors, specifically psychiatrists, check out the research of Lisa Cosgrove.

One thing to publish fraudulent claims, quite another to arbitrarily construct conditions for the benefit of the pharmaceutical industry.

You only have to look at the levels of co-morbidity in the DSM to realise that something is very amiss.

Remember when people just has anxiety disorder? Now look at how many classifications there are of it. Oh and conveniently, a pill for each and every one!
