Well, when it was fresh and shiny, I'm sure it was a very attractive Ho-Tei figure (or just a smiling Buddha, whatever).
But that it is melting right there at the temple is a humorous affirmation of the Buddhist concept of the transience of material things...
Well, *I* thought it was humorous. :)
