Absolutely true! Unfortunately macro lenses are expensive and I have no money :P Reversing my 50mm is really only viable in studio conditions; if you look at the metadata I post with the photos, you'll notice that almost all of these macro shots have at least about a 2sec. exposure, usually into the 20sec range... I just can't hold steady that long :P I would LOVE to be able to get some outdoor macros.
It's a sad thing when one's equipment doesn't allow one to really follow one's passions ;)
I noticed you reversed your 50 a lot to take macros. I'd love a macro lens myself since that's the type of photography I'm typically interested in but the price is always the killer! Maybe someday if money isn't an issue we can both acquire one
