Today I read a great article by Mark Manson on PostMasculine about the realities of American versus the rest of the world. Follow the link and read it there if you can, but the articl quickly got so popular that their site was having trouble keeping up. For those of you who ( Read more... )

And those exceptions are called English and Australian people. Whoopdie-fucking-doo.

A huge percentage of Australians are pretty anti-American. Me, I can't fucking stand them. Except, that's not true. I've got loads of American friends, and it's strange, cos they're pretty much the opposite of everything you hate about Americans. I don't like Americans, but shit - I wouldn't want to be racist or anything. Cos like, i've got American friends and they're ok. *rolleyes*

Quite a while ago I realised that even though the vast majority of Americans who can vote are going to be in total fucking opposition to me, it's pretty important I don't judge a whole country by the majority of its voters.

You make good points, but you're not doing your argument any favours by suggesting that every Australian likes everyone from the United States. Many of us despise the US culture. But we don't tar every US citizen with the same brush. The education system is good here, so we know not to do that.

Do note that I was re-hosting this because the main server was down. This isn't my point. it's someone else's article. that said, I think that his point is not that Austrians like people from the US, I think it's that they don't really care that much and are generally positive when they meet them. People outside the US who hate the US really hate a stereotype that they see from the news, not the reality.

oh crap, i'm sorry. i'd had a few drinks when i read the entry and i didn't notice that. totally my bad. I saw the "originally posted at invisible druid" and then i guess i confused your cross-posting with your linking. i'm generally a little more observant, and now i feel very silly!

I shall go and look at the original article.
