Bhutan Chronicles, Oct 2007: After getting our permits to enter Bhutan, the road journey from the border town of Phuntsholing to Paro took us around 9 hours. The road is not in a good shape due to frequent landslides and soil erosion.

Maggi apparently is the staple dish in many of these somewhat-inhabited trekking routes in the mountains. It does taste far better after long hikes, true.

Interesting narration! I have Bhutan on my plans. But your permit ordeal seems tortorous!

o, in your opening sentence, I think you meant "erosion" and not "corrosion". :-)

Thanks for sharing

yes, it took a day in phuntsholing and another day in thimpu! but unfortunately, that's one hurdle we have to cross. it's still better than other nationals paying close to 300$ a day to see the country. their permits are organised beforehand so they don't need to go through this whole process. but for the amount they're paying, they shouldn't!

You brought back my memories of Bhutan from many years ago. Paro and the river Teesta were ever so lovely!

> The other thing is that both the rider and the passenger wear helmets.

That should be the way everywhere, except in India, when we crib and cry when the rule is enforced.

I never expected masala dosa in Bhutan;-)

true. in bangalore, they're even starting to break the rider helmet rule already. everyday i see idiots speeding on 2 wheelers without helmets.

it was a surprise for us too :)
