That all being said--wow I have a tendency to tanget--I loved this. The first scene by itself would've done it for me, but the mirror was especially interesting and heart-wrenching. It's such an interesting thought, but one that works so well you can't help but believe it.
Excellent work!
In the second line, your spacing's a bit off around the comma. Just to let you know!

The first scene was the first to come in my head, and the one I really wanted to right. But I really also wanted there to be more drama (who doesn't love drama), and a reason for Canada to have this inferiority complex.
Plus, not enough people relate Canada's appearance to France's, imo, even though they look a lot alike.
Thank you for the awesome review, Hallie <3
damn, I thought I fixed that! thank you!!

Revolutionary America would have such a crush on France and I could definitely see it continuing as a sort of warm fuzzy that just sits there no matter who France flits off after. I don't know about a pointless yearning and pursuit in more modern times, though. We've had some pretty close times with France in the past, but relations aren't as super tight as with other nations (much to the character America's displeasure, I'm sure).
OP, I can believe the messed up dynamics of this little triangle. So painful to poor Mattie. I just want to give him a hug. And smack America on the head for being so oblivious.
