I am such a dork that every time I come across something incongruous, I immediately go, "Oh! Plot bunny!" Therefore, you get a sad Elfangor fic
( Read more... )
My favourite Animorphs characters are Loren, Tobias and Elfangor, so you have made me a happy fangirl. :)
I really like the subject matter, too - I wrote a little one-off about the same thing long ago, with a similar-yet-different explanation for who the four Andalites in the picture were (the fic, thankfully is now lost, for it was BAD); I, too, found the whole thing to be a little bit off once I read The Andalite Chronicles and saw no mention of a wife and two kids for Elfangor. (Not that I can't say I was displeased - I would have been seriously homicidal if KAA had decided to marry Elfangor off to somebody else other than Loren! lol)
As we can all see, I'm not at all obsessed.
But , anyway, I really liked this fic, and really liked how you nailed the characters perfectly. Well done!
Thank you! And, yay, I'm not the only not-at-all obsessed one!
and saw no mention of a wife and two kids for Elfangor.
Heh, that would have been the Elfangor-had-a-sekrit-identity fic I mentioned, but it stalled when I couldn't get past, "No, Elfangor would be all depressed! And then Tobias would go, 'WTF, dad?', and Ax would be completely lost." ;) The other explanation I considered was that it was a picture of the Ellimist and Tree, and their kids, who might technically be part of Elfangor's family, but that seemed weird for Elfangor to have sitting around in his personal ship.

I say that about basically everything I wrote when the books were still being published - especially the Animorphs stuff. XD
I love that! I think that the characterization is perfect. I always wondered whether anyone else noticed the two kids thing. Having said that, you realize that even with the timeline that the Ellimist wanted, Elfangor was already an adult when Ax was born, right? Still, love it. I guess there's no chance of more...?
Thank you! And, yep, I know how it worked out in canon, but I think what I was thinking of was the first time they used the Time Matrix, when everyone was trying to get back to his/her own home and Elfangor just wanted to go to his parents and be a child again. The Ellimist could have given him that and he and Ax could have grown up more-or-less together, but the Ellimist pulled his "I know what you really want and you'll thank me for this later" card and wouldn't let Elfangor go home.
...Actually, I had meant that story as a one-shot, but now that I'm explaining all that, I think there's potential for an AU about the Ellimist actually letting Elfangor go home. A book-length MM-style AU is exactly what I don't need to start working on right now, but it's really tempting. ;)
AU?!?! Please please please please? I really think your characterization is flawless and I LOVE reading Elfangor. Here's my AU so far... but I think you could write it better:
