The Ellimist said that the Yeerks would discover them later (in three hundred years) and realize "there's a better way," but the series delivered another method: letting the Yeerks morph and keep a form.
Did anyone else ever get the idea that Grapplegate's original plan was to have the Yeerks meet the Iskoort and then the necessity of ending the series made her take a different direction? Personally, I was disappointed the Iskoort never amounted to any significance after their initial appearance. Obnoxiousness aside, they were a powerful factor in the story if they'd been utilized - but of course, there was no way they could just wait three hundred years. Hence, the far more immediate solution.
The Iskoort vaguely reminded me of the Pemalites in that they were a species very ill-prepared for confrontation (remember how even the Warmaker Iskoort were basically taken down by regular human fisticuffs?) and between that and the whole 'peaceful Yeerk alternative', I can't help but wonder just how much of a hand the Ellimist had in their development from the beginning.
I always liked the Iskoort --- it feels like there was a lot of potential there that never got exploited. Obviously it's there with their relationship to the Yeerks, but also I've always wondered how their weirdly set up society works and I would have liked to see more of it. (Although I can see how that wouldn't really be practical from the point of view of the main plot of the series.)
I love how they had a Guild for *everything*--and how Rachel *calmly* told Guide he would rip off his head and use it as soccer ball if he shaved her head. ;) I also though the Ikroot=Yeerk reveal was really well-done (as was this whole book, which was made of awesome).
idk, I kind of feel the iskoort serves their purpose for the book, but the ultimate conclusion was more satisfying to me. Don't get me wrong, I think #26 is the single best regular-series book, but it was still just a regular-series book. The iskoort are a race I really don't regret not hearing more about.
